Album Review: Avatar – Avatar Country (Century Media Records)

Swedish metallers, Avatar will release their seventh full-length album, “Avatar Country”, on January 12 via Entertainment One in North America and Century Media Records. The melodic metal band have really been making a name for themselves over the last few years with high-profile tours & slots at festivals.

The followup to the successful, Feathers and Flesh. The expansive & narrative driven, Avatar Country was produced by Jay Ruston at Spinroad Recording Studios in Gothenburg Sweden. The first single, “A Statue of The King” has been released & you can check out the accompanying video below.

The band have also announced a huge number of tour dates across the US & Europe which you can also see at the bottom.

Opening with Avatar Country’s national anthem, Glory to Our King before erupting into up-tempo metal. Legend of the King’s grandness comes from the shrieking riffs, thundering beats & blazing death metal vocals. An 8-minute heavy but tuneful effort that clings to the brain.

Things take a curious different direction with the country-western rhythm of The King Welcomes You To Avatar Country, a bouncy & fun number. Jammed in between the opener & the upbeat head-banging inducing King’s Harvest it defiantly stands out. The sense of epic-ness that Avatar bring with Avatar Country is devilishly exciting.

The likes of The King Wants You, A Statue of the King & King After King are toe-tappingly catchy filled with bags of metal rhythm. Avatar have crafted an exhilarating record, one that closes out with melody (Silent Songs Of The King Pt. 1 – Winter Comes When The King Dreams Of Snow) and one final hard & heavy push (Silent Songs Of The King Pt. 2 – The King’s Palace).

Avatar have started 2018 off strongly, delivering a hard-hitting & heavy release that is filled with epic metal melody. This is going to be a huge year for them so make sure you’re on board & take a trip to Avatar Country!
