Weekly Release Roundup – Friday, 30th August, 2024
From extreme and brutal death metal, to gothic doom, progressive rock, grunge, and shoegaze, to groovy sludge, and post, to epic heavy and blackened metal, it’s a big week for releases and we’ve got a list for you to check out.
Nails – Every Bridge Burning (Nuclear Blast)
They’re back, reforged and refreshed, with a new album that proves no fire has been lost at all. The band might be completely transformed, but the intensity they always had, is ever present. Nails are back, and across 18-minutes of music, they remind listeners just why they are so necessary.

Enumclaw – Home in Another Life (Run for Cover Records / Cooking Vinyl Australia)
Home in Another Life is, overall, a beautiful example of openness and being true to yourself. Enumclaw haven’t sought to write ‘hits’, but rather write music that fits them and what they are feeling.

Copse – MMXXIV (Church Road Records)
If, by some chance, you’ve not listened to this band already then MMXXIV is a must. Five tracks of utter spell-binding brilliance.

Avmakt – Satanic Inversion Of…. (Peaceville)
What Avmakt offer here might be ‘new’ but sonically, it’s pulled from the past. The ‘golden age’ of black metal in fact, and with that, a rawness that cuts right to the bone like an icy wind. This is an album of evil sounding music, and those who like their metal to sound delightfully unholy will find it extremely appealing.

Forlorn Hope – Valour – Part I (Self Released)
A lot of words come to mind in an attempt to sum up this release, but none can do them justice. Not because of Forlorn Hope’s metal approach, after all that is very familiar and comforting, but because of the stories being told. Forlorn Hope deliver on the promise of massive anthems that honour recipients of the Victoria Cross. Part I is a banger, roll on Part II.

thrown – EXCESSIVE GUILT (Arising Empire)
Banger after banger, showcasing thrown doing what thrown do best, which is keeping things short and intense, brutalising the senses with their unrelenting ferocity, and leaving a hefty impact.
