Weekly Release Roundup – Friday, 23rd August 2024
From extreme heaviness and symphonic death, to speed punk, avant-garde and progressive rock, to progressive doom, and metalcore, to atmospheric and emotive music, it’s a big week for releases and we’ve got a list for you to check out. All these releases are out today!
Nile – The Underworld Awaits Us All (Napalm Records)
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Nile are back and bringing forth a familiar sound of death metal centred around their trademark Egyptology style. What this album lacks in originality, it makes up for with mayhem-induced heaviness, progressive taints, and scathing levels of extreme. Fleshgod Apocalypse – Opera (Nuclear Blast)
Big, very big symphonic sounds blended with intense death metal, which might sound like familiar Fleshgod Apocalypse, until you remember that innovation is a major part of this band. Innovation and creativity, resulting in a brand-new album that stands tall amongst the band’s immense back catalogue.

VxHxS – Jaws (We Are Horror Records)
Five tracks and around six minutes of music. If that doesn’t tell you a lot about what you’re in for with Jaws, nothing will. VxHxS are a no-nonsense speed-infused punk band and Jaws is them sounding abrasive and angry, all while paying tribute to the iconic film, Jaws.

Greif, over time, will become a seminal Zeal & Ardor release and many of its tracks will be held in as high regard as the likes of Devil is Fine, Church Burns, Come on Down, and Death to the Holy. It’s just going to take a little longer, and a fair few more listens to find that out.

Rising Insane – Wildfires (Long Branch)
The evolution is well and truly under way and based off what is on offer here, it’s only going to help increase Rising Insane’s listener base. It’s not always the most exciting of listens, and at times, it lacks spark, but it’s still hugely enjoyable. The future is looking bright.

Orme – No Serpents, No Saviours (Self Released)
What intensity does Orme have to offer this time? Heaviness. That’s a given, sure, but heaviness like what is on offer here? Be prepared to be obliterated by a cacophony of noise that combines the darkest of death and dankest of doom sounds.

I Hear Sirens – Acheron (Post. Recordings/Dunk!Records)
Acheron is a wonderful album that showcases a band of immense talent and song writing skill. They have delivered a masterclass in writing atmospheric and emotive music here with Acheron.

Lone Cairn – Music Of The Spheres (Self Released)
A singular track that demands focus, while also offering an experience that holds the attention, there is a ‘give and take’ aspect to Music of the Spheres. Where the more the listener is willing to be immersed, the more reward they will find within the music.
