Weekly Release Roundup – Friday, 1st November, 2024
From gothic metal to hard rock, to power metal and deathcore, to pop punk, progressive rock, and death metal, it’s a big week for releases and we’ve got a list for you to check out. All these releases are out today!
Tribulation – Sub Rosa In Æternum (Century Media Records)
The ever-evolving face of Tribulation is on clear display here and they can never be accused of stagnating. Even when they’re offering up familiar lavish and theatrical vibes. When it’s good (Saturn Coming Down, Murder in Red, Reaping Song), it’s really freaking good. Tribulation as untouchable as ever.

Bombus – Your Blood (Black Lodge)
On the one hand, this is the same band that has brought us stellar releases like The Poet and the Parrot (2013), Repeat Until Death (2016), and Vulture Culture (2019). Then, on the other, it’s an unfamiliar direction that the band is heading in and one that might prove to be a bit polarising. Devolving their metal sound and combining it with a hard rock style that mixes classic elements with modernised freshness.

Dragoncorpse – The Fall of House Abbarath (Shattered Earth Records)
The follow-up to their excellent ‘The Drakketh Saga’ EP, Dragoncorpse have learned so much already and build on the impressive combination of deathcore and power metal that makes up their unique sound. What we have here is a much more refined effort.

Clay J Gladstone – Is This How I Die? (Def Wolf Records)
Embodying the words ‘long awaited’ and ‘much anticipated’, Clay J Gladstone’s debut album arrives with some mighty expectations. Especially as the build, which has seen countless singles released, has revealed a record that looks like it could be an album of the year contender. Why? Because they aren’t just anthemic, they’re believably anthemic. They don’t have to force anything, because this is who they are and what they do. They’re a band seemingly incapable of writing anything but relatable and anthemic punk rock that gets jammed in the brain.

Wizard Tattoo – One of These Knives (Garage Fire Recordings)
The second EP that Wizard Tattoo has dropped this year, but whereas July’s concept EP ‘Living Just for Dying’, picked up where the ‘Fables of the Damned’ album left off, this release looks to capture the dynamism of their debut EP. Something evident by the overall rawer tone that permeates the release.

VOLA – Friend Of A Phantom (Mascot Records)
A band that embodies the word ‘greatness’, few could have expected VOLA to return with such a strong release, but here it is. Friend of a Phantom is a must listen for all fans of progressive music.

The Fallen Prophets – Primordial Instinct (Self Released)
There is a thick layer of darkness covering this EP and you don’t need to be familiar with The Fallen Prophets or their previous work to feel that. The speed of the drums, the savagery of the riffs, and the brutal delivery of the vocals makes this one savage sounding death metal release.

Saltwound – The Temptation of Pain (SharpTone Records)
As brutal as ever, as furious as always, and dynamic through and through, Saltwound are back and while The Temptation of Pain might be pleasing for its aggressiveness, what really puts a smile on the face is the clear fact that Saltwound are moving forward. They’ve never sounded this good, and you can tell they’ve put a lot of effort into making this the most realised version of the band.

Line Of Fire – Scars (Self Released)
When Line of Fire talk about ‘scars’, they mean both the physical and emotional kind that can only come from years of hard work and perseverance. It’s great to have them back and here’s hoping the future continues with the same amount of aplomb as this EP.
