Weekly Release Roundup – Friday, 19th July, 2024
From groovy hard rock and anthemic metalcore, to avant-garde madness and death metal intensity, to blackened metal, melodic hardcore, shoegaze and doom, it’s a big week for releases and we’ve got a list for you to check out. All these releases are out today!
Orange Goblin – Science, Not Fiction (Peaceville Records)
Who doesn’t love a bit of Orange Goblin, and chances are, even if you’ve not purposefully sought out their music, you’ve heard many a track and likely head banged to them as well. Something that is once again assured as this new album comes with many-a-reason to groove and move to. Worship the riff, Orange Goblin certainly do, and across nine (ten if you include the bonus track) they deliver a thunderous blast of stoner-infused hard rock and metal to warm the soul.

Sable Hills – Odyssey (Arising Empire)
One run through of Odyssey and it’s easy to understand just why Sable Hills have risen to the top of the Japanese metal scene and how their influence is spreading further afield now. Offering up a dynamic style of metalcore that happily, has a lot of oomph, while being acutely anthemic and memorable. These days, it’s not easy to stand out within the metalcore world, but Sable Hills make it seem pretty simple.

Circle of Sighs – URSUS (Suspirium Tactile Goods)
If this is your first experience of Circle of Sighs, then chances are you’re going to come away absolutely flabbergasted by this release. It can’t be understated just how unique this band/collective is and while a term like ‘avant-garde’ might be overused these days, there are few experiences that exemplify it so perfectly.

Lower Hollow – Threnody: Songs of Fortitude (Mongrel Records)
Having gone through enough hardship to kill most bands, and using those difficulties in a creative way, Lower Hollow return stronger than ever with Threnody: Songs of Fortitude. The hardcore infused metal band have reached deep inside themselves, and the result is an eleven-track (including an intro) brute of a release. One with a thick rivet of pain running through it.

Far From Refuge – False Flag (Self Released)
One of those bands who refuse to be constrained by genre terms, Far from Refuge might be predominantly a progressive metal band, but it is their wild array of creative ideas that helps make them standout. Creative ideas that draw from a whole host of different genres and ensures everything they do sounds fresh and exciting.

Breaths – Breaths (Pleasure Tapes)
The perfect combination of melodic beauty and morose heaviness, Breaths style of shoegaze combined with doom and ambient drone has always proven to be very captivating, but the man reaches a new high with this fourth album.

Werewolves – Die For Us (Self Released)
You know how this goes by now. It’s Werewolves and they make extreme music and do so in the most ferocious and feral way possible. Promising to leave the body, mind, and soul completely broken and always delivering with garish aplomb. All with their tongues firmly planted in their cheeks.
