Thy Catafalque – XII: A gyönyörű álmok ezután jönnek (Season of Mist)
Thy Catafalque brings forth an album that can be simply summed up as stunning. Even if the word ‘simple’ doesn’t belong in any sentence involving Thy Catafalque. Tamás Kátai’s vision is as unique as ever, and once again, he is joined by an incredible array of guest musicians to help make that vision a reality.

Less than Jake – Uncharted (Pure Noise Records)
Less Than Jake continue to move with the times, but also have the perfect balance between all the different eras that have come and gone within the band. It’s fabulous to find them so strong this far into their careers and with this many releases under their belts.

Sergeant Thunderhoof – The Ghost of Badon Hill (Pale Wizard Records)
A conceptual idea that could have resulted into something far more intangible and far more elaborate than what we get. In a rare showing for this band, The Ghost of Badon Hill is a tight and focused effort that avoids detours on its story-telling path. Which certainly works in favour of the concept but doesn’t take away from the recognisable Sergeant Thunderhoof enigmatic style that makes their sound so unique.

Burial – Rejoice in Sin (Apocalyptic Witchcraft)
Burial’s new album is exactly the record to make a nun blush and grip their rosary beads that little bit tighter. It’s the kind of record to have your parents wondering where it all went wrong, the kind of record that results in midnight photo shoots in the local graveyard, and the kind of record that will definitely please Satan.

zebrahead – I (MFZB Records)
Just because it’s familiar, doesn’t mean it’s not a ton of fun, especially when it’s such a singalong. Never doubt zebrahead to have exactly what you need.

All Involved – The Enemy Within (Self Released)
Fresh heavy metal from London, and it comes with an attention-grabbing modern twist, All Involved are looking to leave an impression with this EP, and it is fair to say that their mission is completed come the end.

Still – A Theft (Floodlit Recordings)
The personification of anxiety in aural form, Still’s new album is every bit the discordiant and discombobulating experience long-term listeners would hope it to be.

Furze – Cosmic Stimulation of Dark Fantasies (Devoted Art Propaganda/Polytriad Fingerprints)
Furze themselves classify their music as unusual, black psychedelic and Cosmic Stimulation of Dark Fantasies is definitely that with a big emphasis on the “unusual”. Trippy doom sounds with blackness coming from some of the vocals and the overall vibe of the record, it’s a different beast.
