Leicester’s premier indoor rock and metal festival, Uprising, returns for its eighth instalment on Saturday 24th May and it’s armed with an eclectic mix of bands. Joining Uprising 8 are:

BLACK ORCHID EMPIRE

BLACK ORCHID EMPIRE will bring an unforgettable performance to the O2 Academy. Their signature sound blends heavy-hitting savagery and melodic beauty. They are well known for their ferociously tight live shows and epic sing-along choruses. This powerhouse trio has earned a reputation as a must-see act. Having toured with the likes of Skunk Anansie, HED p.e, and INME, as well as making festival appearances at Download, UK Tech-Metal Festival, and Planet Rockstock, BLACK ORCHID EMPIRE are a force to be reckoned with.

DEFENCES

Alternative Metal band DEFENCES has also joined the Uprising lineup, having engaged festival audiences with notable performances at Download Festival, Takedown, Turbulence, Burn It Down, and the UK Tech-Metal Festival. DEFENCES will bring a high-octane set that will comprise songs from their impressive discography, featuring two full-length albums, two EPs, and multiple singles.

OBEYER

Hotly tipped UK-based metalcore heavyweights, OBEYER, will make their Uprising debut. The band has caught the attention of 3DOT Recordings, the label founded by members of Periphery. OBEYER has received critical acclaim from Revolver, Kerrang!, and BBC Radio 1. Make sure to check them out at Uprising before they explode!

TAYNE

TAYNE, an emerging industrial noise pop band, is making their Uprising debut. A band that has a distinctive approach to pop music, TAYNE are pushing the boundaries and exploring innovative soundscapes. Their work seamlessly blends influences from artists such as Lady Gaga and Nine Inch Nails, resulting in a powerful and dynamic musical experience. According to the band, “The contrast is far more interesting to us. We appreciate extreme metal music, but we find it more exhilarating to create something different from the mainstream.” TAYNE has had the opportunity to support notable acts like Health, Author & Punisher, and Greg Puciato, and has also been featured on festival lineups, including Portals and Reeperbahn in Hamburg, Germany.

THE GREY

THE GREY, who are an instrumental post-rock trio that hail from Cambridge. They have created an expansive soundscape that balances atmospheric delicacy and crushingly heavy riffs. The band’s set will consist of tracks from their two full length albums and the series of singles that they have in their arsenal.

SULVAIN

We welcome back the 2022 Leicester Metal 2 The Masses winners, SULVAIN. The NOLA Grunge/Hard Rock four-piece, following their victory went of to perform on the New Blood stage at Bloodstock and since then have been seen supporting well known acts such as Evil Scarecrow and Stormbringer. In 2024, the band released their latest single, “Rain,” a powerful follow-up to their 2022 self-titled full-length album.
