Single Slam – Unleashed by Killswitch Engage (Atonement)
Killswitch Engage have released their brand new single, Unleashed, from their incoming new album called Atonement.
Atonement is set for release on the 16th of August via Music for Nations. It’s the follow up album to their popular 2016 release Incarnate. Interestingly Atonement also features a few guest musicians. One of those is none other than original Killswitch Engage vocalist, Howard Jones. Chuck Billy, from Testament, also features on Atonement.
Killswitch Engage are Jesse Leach on vocals with Justin Foley on drums. Guitars are with both Joel Stroetzel and Adam Dutkiewicz while Mike D’Antonio is on the bass.
Unleashed is just over 4 and a half minutes in length and it’s good. It starts with a nice little melody before exploding into life with a deafening roar. We get a solid crunching riff with some wicked drumming. Vocals start clean but mix back into growls. It’s pretty typical stuff but it’s good. There are lots of layers with the vocals too, mixing cleans with backing growls and vice versa. Overall it has a slow to mid tempo rhythm with plenty of force and catchiness. A headbanger, for sure with plenty of emotion wrapped up in the vocals and their delivery.
Speaking about Unleashed, vocalist Jesse Leach says : “Unleashed is about inner passion and rage coming up to the surface. We all have that wild within that often stays dormant until a tragic event triggers and awakens it. This song is about that awakening within. I feel we were able to capture something raw and intense on this song and I’m stoked for everyone to hear it!”
