Single Slam: Scars of Credence – Serenity
The UK’s own Scars of Credence are back with a second single entitled Serenity following on from the impressive debut single, Asylum. A young, five-piece metal band based in Stoke-on-Trent. You can read our review of Asylum here.
In that review we made allusions to how Scars of Credence could easily become a powerhouse of the metalcore genre years down the line based off the strength of that song. Well, Serenity adds even more weight to that statement with a slower rhythm that switches effortlessly from raging heaviness to clean melodies with ease.
Showing a wider range here, the guttural vocals play off the radio-friendly singing nicely. The former goes well alongside a crunchy level of guitar while the latter takes control of the chorus. At least until the final few moments where we get a duel performance.
The highlight is an stunningly good guitar solo that hits just before the big finish. While not exactly risk-taking, Scars of Credence are proving that they have a strong grasp of what modern metalcore could and should sound like.
