Single Slam: Burner and Horrid Human Condition!

Today’s single slam features Burner and Horrid Human Condition. You can read our thoughts about the latest singles from these bands below.

Burner – City 17

Burner have unveiled their hard-hitting new single ‘City 17’, out now via Church Road Records.

Says vocalist Harry:

‘City 17’ confronts the ongoing violence and cultural genocide against the Uyghur people under the Chinese Communist Party. The song aims to shed light on these atrocities and serves as a warning against the coercive tactics of authoritarian regimes worldwide.

Bigger and bolder, while retaining all the intensity that makes them such a head turning band, the next stage of Burner’s developing sound is exciting. Methodically heavy, remarkably thick, and savagely delivered, all of this is enough to call this a monumental track, but there is more. Notably, a melodic drop that is haunting in tone, and a subject matter that cuts through. There’s a really strong sense that we’re about to experience the rise of Burner, and a track like this is a warning. It’s going to be really fun!

Horrid Human Condition – Heavy Burden

Italian crust / grindcore squad Horrid Human Condition returns with a blistering new single, ‘Heavy Burden’. Taken from their upcoming debut album, ‘Perpetual Imbalance’, which will be released on April 18th 2025 via Time To Kill Records.

Comments the band:

‘Heavy Burden’ is one of our latest tracks and stylistically highlights our main influences: crust punk in a more aggressive form, bordering on grindcore.

The song deals with humanity’s ongoing struggle against injustice and abuse of power, forced to live daily amidst fear and uncertainty, increasingly caught in a relentless fight for survival. Living a dignified life, which should be a right for everyone, has become a privilege for the few.

The music video was filmed at the Caserma Liberata in Bari, a place known for its social inclusivity and a key symbol of the underground scene in which the band thrives.

Two minutes of foul and furious heaviness that can best be summed up as sickening noise. Which should be really off-putting, but the Horrid Human Condition delivery and the genre crossover style of it, makes it so much more appealing. It’s fast, feral, and freaking filthy. What’s not to love?
