Korn – Forgotten

Korn shares “Forgotten”, their first offering of 2022 and the second song from their upcoming studio album ‘Requiem’, due February 4th via Loma Vista Recordings.

Continuing the trend of harking back to their past but with fresher, modern ideas, Korn’s latest single is an encapsulation of where this band are today. Clearly still Korn, just listen to those wacky guitar tones and of course, the vocals. However, still delivering memorable and catchy choruses. All while getting downright nasty and heavy when the time is needed. Another good release, Requiem is promising to be one hell of a Korn album.

The Last Vinci – Falling from a Mountain of Joy

Irish alt stoner trio The Last Vinci have revealed their new single ‘Falling from a Mountain of Joy’, taken from their forthcoming LP The Revolution is Made Together, due 4th March via Narrow Door Records.

An off-kilter guitar tone, smooth vocals and laidback drumming transforms into a fuzzy, intense and heavier blast of metal. This is what hits you in the first minute of this track. Hold on tight, there’s another 3 to go.

A powerful effort that that blends alt rock melodies with fuzzed out stoner jams, the hook in this track digs in really deep. Check it out here.

Basement Gary – This Ain’t a Like Song

Basement Gary are back with a second single ‘This Ain’t a Like Song’ taken from their upcoming album ‘As BG As They Wanna Be’.

This Ain’t a Like Song will have dreaming of summer as its bright and luminous disposition feels tailor-made for the warmth of the sun. A very catchy pop-punk number, what really makes this track stand out is the incredible use of a piano.

Don’t be surprised if you’re humming and singing this one hours afterwards. Check it out here.

Elyrean – The Omniscient One

Elyrean are back. The West Midlands melodic/technical thrash metal band were forced to take a prolonged break came following the departure of previous lead vocalist and bassist, Asa. Guitarist Will Edwards has stepped into the vocalist role and Josh Richardson has joined on bass.

To showcase this new line-up, Elyrean have released a new single called ‘The Omniscient One’. Focusing on topics on climate change.

Any concerns about what Elyrean might sound like now are put to bed with this banger of track. A dirty, aggressive and pointed slab of thrashy metal. With touches of groove and interesting technicality. Elyrean have something to prove now and this sharp, heavy and brash noise is certainly a step in the right direction. An out and out head banger if there ever was one. Check it out here.

Slashy Sue – Tag, You’re Dead

Industrial horror metallers Slashy Sue have unveiled the second single off of the upcoming debut album. It is called ‘Tag, You’re Dead’.

A harder and harsher sound when compared to the first single, Slashy Sue play with urgency here. It’s like they’re being hunted by a serial killer, the tempo being the desperate energy expended.

A set of smashing riffs, chunky industrial effects and varied vocals makes this one hell of a track. It’s kind of catchy but has such a dark and twisted underlay. There is even a moment that can be called ‘playful’ in a fucked-up way.

Eden Rayz – Saint Anthony’s Fire

Eden Rayz is the extreme vocalist of Scaphism and Angel Grinder, and is a formidable session cellist who has recorded for such acts as Moon Tooth, wiles, and Wyclef Jean. But in her decade-long career, she’s never released solo material until now.

Eden is a classically trained cellist who formally studied composition at Berklee College of Music, but cut her teeth in the Cleveland and Boston underground metal scenes. She specializes in extended techniques for cello that are unapologetically abrasive and experimental.

For her first single, Saint Anthony’s Fire, Eden ran her cello through a Sovtek MIG-100 with no effects. The result was a raw and biting tone that captured the soul of cello, but through a blasphemous lens.

The only word that can possibly describe what Eden Rayz is doing on this track is ‘experimental’. Though this level of experimentation has more in common with a mad scientist than anything else. If you want to hear something wholly and undeniably unique, this needs to be heard.

The churlish rawness, the mind-bending drums, the exasperating sound of the cello, the repulsive vocal style… it’s so intense. Yet, it is utterly brilliant. Call it noise, call it nonsense, call it absurd but make sure you call it magnificent overall.

Stone Broken – Revelation

Stone Broken will release their dynamic new studio album, Revelation, via Spinefarm on April 15th 2022. Born from a desire to push themselves into new realms of musical creativity, Revelation sees Stone Broken storming into rock’s big leagues. The first single & album title-track, “Revelation” has now been released.

A catchy ass-kicker, Stone Broken’s first single from this new album is one hell of a foot-tapper. Banging riffs, a hooky chorus and thrilling rhythmic beat makes for one hell of a memorable listen. It’s got a really modern sound, the litany of subtle effects mixes nicely with the rockier instrumentation. The brief bit of heavier noise near the end, surrounding a guitar solo, is a nice touch too. Check it out here.

Misfire – Fractured

Chicago-based thrash trio and recent MNRK Heavy signees Misfire will release their Sympathy For The Ignorant debut full-length on 1st April. In advance of the record’s release, the band have unveiled a video for first single, ‘Fractured’.

A straight-forward thrashy number that delivers a cacophony of heavy riffs, pounding drums and flesh-tearing hooks. The neck muscles are in real danger here as this is pure head-banging gold. The initial slow tempo transforming into chaotic thrash noise as the vocals roar. Heavy metal gold.

Landmvrks – Death

Marseille, France based metalcore stars Landmvrks return with ‘Lost in the Waves’ (The Complete Edition), an expanded version of their highly acclaimed studio album, which includes prominent guest features, new music and exciting bonus content, due for release on March 18th.

Now the band have unveiled ‘Death’, the first new track from the expanded edition, which features guest vocals from Drew York of Stray from the Path.

Lost in the Waves was a banger so an extension of that album is very exciting. That the new tracks feature such prominent guests, is all the more exciting and Death is a great showcase of what we’re going to get. Sounding like it belongs on the original record without a doubt, the punchy metal heaviness and groove of Landmvrks is ever-present but Drew York delivers a passionate performance that just fits the heavy rhythm and catchier, cleaner chorus perfectly. Check it out here.

Venom Prison – Nemesis

Venom Prison hurtle towards the impending release of their stunning third album by releasing new single, “Nemesis”. Erebos will be released on February 4th, 2022 via Century Media.

Are you excited for venom Prison’s new album yet? If you still, somehow, need convincing that Erebos is shaping up to be the group’s finest work to date, Nemesis should do the job.

Venom Prison at their blistering best, Nemesis features an array of unpredictable twists and turns. From their memorable blasts of fury to complex sounding guitars to brief moments of melodic levity and a constant sense of barely contained chaos. It’s Venom Prison at their fieriest while, once again, proving just how forward thinking they currently are.
