Finnish metallers, Ratbreed, have released the second single from their upcoming album, Evoke the Blaze. The new track is called Hunting High, Reaping Low. Evoke the Blaze will be released worldwide on the 13th of July via Inverse Records.
Evoke the Blaze will be Ratbreed’s debut release. They have been working hard to forge a place for themselves with extensive touring within Finland, around Helsinki predominantly. In early 2017, they felt they had enough new material to enter the studio and record an album. Partly recorded at Deep Noise Studios in Kouvola and partly at the band’s guitarists private studio, Evoke the Blaze was born. The album was mixed and mastered by Juho Räihä at Sound Spiral Audio.
Ratbreed are a 5 piece with female led vocals from Jasmin Anglén. Guitars are in the hands of Mikko Kaipainen and Markus Taipale. Bass is with Lauri Palmunen and the drums are with Mikko Toivonen.
Speaking about the single, Hunting High, Reaping Low, Ratbreed said – “Hunting High, Reaping Low was one of the last songs written on the album, together with the first single Gates of Underworld. Can’t remember which one came first actually. Lyrically its about subconscious black hole exploding and repressed inner demons coming to surface”.
I am not so sure about exploding black holes and the like but I am sure that Hunting High, Reaping Low is a really solid track. The vocals are good, with plenty of fire and passion. For me though, the winner is the 80’s styled, almost NWOBHM guitar riffs. They are fast and flashy coupled with a thick bass line and cymbal heavy drum rhythm. The chorus is catchy enough but the big pay off comes with the superb, blazing solo near the end. Hunting High, Reaping Low is a ripping rock song, dripping with attitude and style.
