Single Slam: Golden Snake by Atarka
Making waves with their performance in the Birmingham leg of the Metal 2 the Masses events, Atarka are a name we weren’t familiar with but after listening to Golden Snake, you can be sure we won’t be forgetting them anytime soon.
A melodic metal band, they blend deep booming riffs with a gruff, angry style of vocals. Until it hits the chorus. Then we get clean singing, the kind that wouldn’t look out of place on a pop-rock record. The two mesh well together and don’t fight over space, actually looking to compliment each other.
The end result is a very memorable listen. Some seriously catchy hooks. So much so that it’s very hard to not find yourself humming the chorus for ages afterwards!
The b-side of the single, Miasma has a much more straightforward speeding rhythm that has plenty in common with death metal. The groovier riffs grab the attention and once again the contrasting vocals is what stands out. Well, alongside the out and out aggression of the track overall.
If this is what we have to look forward too come the release of their debut album, then we can really get excited.
