This week’s single slam features Bury Tomorrow, The Blood Republic, A Night in Texas, Tribe of Ghosts, Evergrey, Renez Dieon, Bodysnatcher, The Oklahoma Kid, Oni and Malevolence. You can read our thoughts about the latest singles from these bands below.
Bury Tomorrow – Death (Even Colder)
The new era of Bury Tomorrow begins with the new single, Death (Ever Colder). Following a period of rest, a renewed spiritedness can be found in the group, complete with two new members.
Speaking of the new era, the band share:
We have all collectively faced the craziest upheaval in both our personal and professional lives over the last few years. However, this time has given the band a chance to focus on what Bury Tomorrow means to them, and has equally provided a chance to channel influences, creatively expand and move forward with a new, driven direction.
Bury Tomorrow as a unit feel creatively inspired, driven and committed to pushing the band forward into bigger and better things and feel that Death is the door to that future.
What an exciting and nerve-wracking time this is. On the one hand, new Bury Tomorrow music. On the other hand, a Bury Tomorrow that has seen some seismic shifts in recent years. So, let’s get this out of the way from the start, there is an obvious shift in vocals now and that isn’t going to work for a lot of people. Though that is to do the absolutely blistering and brash brutality and cleaner chorus a disservice.
Aside from that, it’s a new era but a familiar Bury Tomorrow and this track slams very hard. The metalcore is strong in this one. Don’t expect anything ground-breaking, after all, this the introduction to the new Bury Tomorrow and you’ll likely be pleasantly surprised.
The Blood Republic – Dust
Multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and producer Zak Müller’s The Blood Republic returns with a brand-new single, Dust.
We’ve been enjoying everything The Blood Republic has put out recently and happily, Dust doesn’t change that. A modern slice of grungy rock that features a ton of infectious energy, heavy groove and moodiness. There is some nostalgic value to this track if you grew up loving grunge but don’t let that fool you into thinking its dated or anything. The Blood Republic are dragging grunge kicking and screaming into the modern day and making it so much more palatable. You can check it out here.
A Night in Texas – God’s Throne
Unique Leader is excited to announce signing Australian deathcore heavyweights A Night In Texas. The band have also unveiled their first single on the label, ‘God’s Throne’.
On ‘God’s Throne’, the band says:
To celebrate our partnership with Unique Leader Records we’re releasing an unheard track from our latest record The Divine Dichotomy. Titled ‘God’s Throne’, this single plays on the classical relationship between Heaven and Hell and how the lines between the latter are becoming increasingly blurring and open to interpretation.
An eye-watering blast of deathcore, A Night in Texas aren’t messing around with this beast. The explosivity is there from the start and across a little under 3-minutes, the band absolute rage and rage with an intensity that seems almost inhuman. Chaotic instrumentation and two ear-bleeding styles of vocals combining to create something that is pure, unbridled noise. You can check it out here.
Tribe of Ghosts – Cold
Brighton based Industrial/Post-Metal band Tribe of Ghosts have released their new single ‘Cold’ on all major streaming services, and through their Bandcamp store.
A subtle vibrating effect is joined by echoing guitar strums and a rhythmic drumbeat before Tribe of Ghosts kick things up a notch. Showing that while industrial is part of their core, post metal is what they are still focused on. There’s plenty of shifts to come, such a sudden stomach-churning drop and following melody/soaring vocals leading to an eruption of nasty sounding belligerence. It is tone shifts that thrill and make this track stand out. You can check it out here.
Evergrey – Midwinter Calls
Gothenburg’s finest export of darkness Evergrey, enter a thrilling new chapter in the band’s history with their thirteenth studio album and Napalm Records debut, A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament), to be released on 20th May, 2022 via Napalm Records.
Following their previously released, pounding album opener ‘Save Us’, Evergrey reveal their glistening second single ‘Midwinter Calls’.
Evergrey on ‘Midwinter Calls’:
‘Midwinter Calls’ is the second song but also the second chapter of a three-video story that reveals itself in a reverse order, why make it easy huh? This song is full of energy and it’s once again featuring our fans and the live audience of Gothenburg, Stockholm and Karlstad – Co-creating at its best! We can’t wait to hear the whole world singing along to this when we play it live! Hopefully you will find the video both thought provoking and uplifting at the same time. What is important, who are we and why? The resistance is getting real!
An Evergrey epic that begins in hot and heavy fashion and keeps that tone at the forefront throughout. Even when those glorious epic vocals arrive and atmospheric audio recordings from the band’s latest tour through Sweden are used to great effect. Pay attention, there’s a lot of layers to this track. Although you’re likely to be head-banging too hard the first few times to notice. The chorus is where its at here.
Renez Dieon – Blood Red Sunset
Grunge-infused, alt-rock band Renez Dieon are back with a brand-new single called ‘Blood Red Sunset’.
This is a banger. It’s as simple as that. A blast of high-energy rock music with some dirty sounding riffs, foot-tapping beats and hooks a-plenty. What more can be said? Its frantic pace leads to a chorus that has a grungier vocal tone but balances that with some really epic melody. Like it or not, this is one hell of an ear-worm track. You can check it out here.
Bodysnatcher – Wired for Destruction
Hotly-tipped US deathcore group Bodysnatcher have unleashed their brutal new video ‘Wired for Destruction’, taken from their long-anticipated album, Bleed-Abide, on 22nd April via MNRK Heavy.
Bleurgh! Now, while there isn’t actually one of those in this track, you can’t help but think of it when you hear this track. Deathcore 101, not meant as an insult but rather a point to how Bodysnatcher embody what we expect from this sound. While doing it complete and utter justice. Wired for Destruction is a stompy blast of violence and it’s very enjoyable. The sort of the short punch that gives you whiplash. You can check it out here.
The Oklahoma Kid – A Velvet Feel
Modern metal quintet The Oklahoma Kid have released a video for their brand-new single ‘A Velvet Feel’, taken from their upcoming full-length release, Tangerine Tragic, due out 3rd June 2022 via Arising Empire.
You never know quite what you’re going to get with The Oklahoma Kid and once again they surprise with A Velvet Feel. A track that is part alt-rock and part metalcore with a thrilling infusion of modern post-hardcore. From beginning to end, you’ll be kept guessing but by time it ends, you’ll just want to hit play again and again. A brilliant and innovative piece of music.
Oni – War Ender
Progressive metalcore project Oni, have unleashed another new track, ‘War Ender’, via Ironshore Records. The song features special guest vocals from NYC trap metal firebrands, City Morgue.
Speaking about the brand-new song, band visionary Jake Oni shares;
I’m so excited for the world to hear the collaboration of Oni and City Morgue. I’ve really liked their music for a while now. I was in the studio working with Mark Morton and we had the idea of getting Zilla and SOS on the track and I was so happy with how it came together. I think ‘War Ender’ is heavy as fuck.
Several words jump to mind as this track plays out. The first is ‘dark’, the second is ‘heavy’, the third is ‘what?’, the fourth is ‘wow’ and so on. More and more thoughts flying through the head as we get something that has the stompy ‘core’ sound but is punctuated by the trap metal sound of City Morgue. The contrast could be off putting to some but the transitions are smooth and around a chorus that is a metal anthem. You can check it out here.
Malevolence – Life Sentence
Last month, Malevolence announced their highly anticipated new album ‘Malicious Intent’ (out 20th May) with blazing first single ‘On Broken Glass’. Now the Sheffield 5-piece have delivered a decisive smackdown in the form of their crushing second single, ‘Life Sentence’.
Malevolence front-man Alex Taylor states:
Anyone that has followed us for a while knows that Malevolence is capable of delivering a fairly wide spectrum of different sounds. Sometimes we want to write ballads, sometimes we want to write big choruses and sometimes we want to write songs that make you want to smash everything in your house to pieces. One of the hardest, darkest and most aggressive tracks from Malicious Intent, Life Sentence is dedicated to anyone that thought we had gone soft!
If you weren’t excited for the new Malevolence album before, you will be after hearing this beast of a track. The group continue to show that going as hard and heavy as possible is one of the only things they know and do it so well. Ripping and tearing riffs, hooks, vocals and a disgusting breakdown. All of this might seem par for the course but few bands do heavy as well as Malevolence and of course, they have some tricks up their sleeves too. Another mighty banger from a band that does this with some serious confidence.
