Single Slam – Blinded by Alien Weaponry

New Zealand’s rising stars, Alien Weaponry return with another brand new single called Blinded with accompanying video, below.

Hot on the heels of their previous single Ahi Kã, the thrash trio released this second stand alone single on the 12 July via Napalm Records. Alien Weaponry are currently out on a huge tour of Europe hitting up loads of festivals and events, growing their name and brand with some absolutely huge performances. These included a quick stop over in the UK where they played Download Festival. They also played a short run of other dates in the UK including a London date at The Underworld in Camden where we caught them. You can read about that here.

The trio are brothers, Lewis (guitars and vocals) and Henry De Jong (drums) with Ethan Trembath on bass.

Blinded

Blinded is around 5 and a half minutes long and is a yet another excellent example of what these guys can do. Running at a slower tempo than their usual thrash blasts, the guitars have a real crunch to them with some real headbanging rhythm. Vocals stay clean throughout but with plenty of snarl and attitude. While there are obvious tribal elements to the sound and structure of the song, Blinded doesn’t use any of the bands usual ideas. No Maori language, no Haka esque sections and no sampled speeches or historical passages. It’s more of a standard metal track with solid drumming and heavy bass lines. The riffs are great and there are some nice lead lines. Vocals are on point and the lyrics are obviously personal and relatable. Great song.

Speaking about the song and the video, Lewis De Jong says: “The song has very personal meaning for me, but we wanted the video to leave things more open, so people can interpret it their own way. Piotr and Dwayne have really captured the notion of altered realities that we were going for, and we hope people will find their own messages in the images and the music”.

Blinded is available now on all the usual streaming platforms. Physically It is only available as the B Side of the single Ahi Kã which you can grab here.

  • Owner/Editor/Writer/YouTuber - Heavy Metal and reading, two things I have always loved so they are the two areas you will find most of my reviews. Post apocalyptic is my jam and I always have a book on the go and have for decades now. From a metal perspective, age has softened my inadequacies and I now operate with an open mind, loving many bands from many sub genres but having a particular admiration for the UK underground scene. In my other time, when not focused on Dad duties and work, I try to support the craft beer movement by drinking as much of it as I can and you will also find me out on the streets, walking. I love walking, I love exploring new places and snapping nature photos as I go.
