Single Slam: Blame It On My Youth by Blink 182
The current iteration of Blink 182 (Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker and Matt Skiba) have released their first new music since 2017’s deluxe edition of California, their previous album. An album that we quite enjoyed, certainly more then we expected and you can read our review here.
The new single is entitled ‘ Blame it On My Youth’ and is the first taste of their upcoming new album. An album with no title or confirmed release date as of yet.
Is it time to get excited about Blink 182 again? Well, going off this track…no. It’s not an objectively bad track but the mix of nostalgic teen angst and Blink being a little more experimental doesn’t exactly wow.
The song theme and lyrics are based around misspent youth. Which is so very Blink 182 and with Hoppus claiming he has looked to the self-titled album in 2003 as inspiration, it really nails the nostalgic side of things.
That being said it’s just not a very interesting track even if it has a little infectious catchiness about it. While the band says they are looking to be a bit more experimental on this upcoming album, here’s hoping the rest of the tracks really see them pushing the boat out.
Hardcore Blink 182 fans will no doubt love this new offering but you’ve never got on board with them in the past, Blame it On My Youth isn’t going to change that.
