My Favourite Video Game: Leaf
My Favourite Video Game is a guest feature from bands and artists where we set them a simple task… tell us about your favourite video game. In this feature, groovy and grungy rock and metal band Leaf, accepts the challenge. You can read all about the choice below.
Yeehaw Hilarity Galore: Red Dead Redemption with Colin from Leaf UK!
I asked you “Are you ready to saddle up and embark on a wild, rootin’-tootin’ adventure in the Old West?” Well, grab your spurs and prepare to laugh your boots off because Red Dead Redemption is here to tickle your funny bone! Is this too much of a corny intro? I am new to this game writing lark; I am a gnarly rocker!
I am a profound fantasist so from the moment I stepped into the dusty boots of the bumbling hero, John Marston, I knew I was in for a side-splitting ride. The game kicks off with John being dragged by his horse after a failed attempt at looking cool while mounting. If that doesn’t set the tone for hilarity, I don’t know what does!
I love the fact that Red Dead Redemption combines the immersive open-world gameplay with a hefty dose of humour that has me chuckling as I navigate through saloons, take on outlaws, and wrangle wild horses. The game brilliantly blends serious storytelling with ridiculous situations, creating a delightful comedic contrast. That is a bit like being in the band, Leaf UK.
One of the highlights of the game for me is the interactions with the quirky non-playable characters. These folks have personalities as big as the Texas sky (I lived there for a while -it does seem very wide), and their dialogues will leave you in stitches. Whether it’s the fast-talking snake oil salesman (like Big Daz from Leaf) or the eccentric bounty hunter with an itchy trigger finger, the characters are wonderfully written and bring a smile to your face with their absolute absurdity.
Speaking of absurdity, the random encounters in Red Dead Redemption are a comedic goldmine. From helping a man find his lost underwear in the wilderness (reminding me of Jarad in Leaf) to encountering a cowboy trying to break into a safe with dynamite (spoiler alert: it doesn’t end well), the game is a smorgasbord of hilarious situations that you stumble upon during your meandering adventures.
So, saddle up, pardner, and prepare to guffaw your way through one of the funniest games in recent memory. Red Dead Redemption will have you saying, “Yeehaw” with a big grin on your face as you ride off into the hilarious sunset. Giddy up and get ready for a wild comedic ride!
Unfortunately Red Dead Redemption II makes me feel sick. Motion sickness has curtailed my fun. A good excuse for not sitting in the back of the van on the way to a gig though….
