Hey all. Ben from Viserion here to talk about one of my favorite hobbies: Gaming. I’ve been asked to talk about my favorite video game of all time. This was an easy question to me as the game I picked was a pioneering moment in Video Game History. I’m talking of course about Halo: Combat Evolved. I remember having a GameCube and PS2 when it was initially released. I went to my friend’s house, and he had this system called Xbox and told me we had to play Halo. Hours later when I got home, I told my brothers we are selling the GameCube for an Xbox to play Halo.

There was nothing close to Halo when it came to how a console FPS could play. The campaign was amazing with the Covenant providing multiple enemies that all provide a challenge and looked badass. They could have stopped there, but they also introduced the Flood in one of the most terrifying and perfect reveals in game history. The swarm of flood infection forms breaking through the doors sticks in your memory years after experiencing it. The dialogue between the marines and story was also second to none.

Halo would’ve been one of the greatest games based solely on the merits mentioned but they also had a ground-breaking multiplayer experience that helped give the game life way after finishing the campaign. Some of my fondest memories are of playing Slayer with my brothers and my neighbour growing up. The shit talking and insanity that could occur with various vehicle options and custom rules left no match feeling the same as the other. Thanks for listening to my Ted Talk. Hey this is Matt, drummer of Viserion. My favorite game is Halo as well but I don’t want to be a copycat so instead I’ll talk about my second favorite game series: Gears of War. I remember reading a gaming magazine and seeing the two words that sold me on Gears: “chainsaw gun.” As a teenager, that was the coolest thing I could think of. I was really excited for the release and when I finally played it, it did not disappoint. The controls and movement were fluid and unique with a phenomenal taking cover system. The guns were very creative, especially my favorite, the Torquebow.

The characters were over the top in the best of ways and had some awesome dialogue, especially Cole. And the campaign and storyline were incredible. The way Gears Of War placed you into the war with the Locust was amazingly executed. The enemies were terrifying, ruthless monsters. From the pesky wretches to the ferocious Berserkers, each foe presented its own challenge and the culmination of all of them truly immersed you into a war with a devastating threat. The unexpected tragic deaths (RIP Carmine), horror-esque Kryll swarms, epic hammer of dawn moments and final boss fight with General Raam made Gears Of War one of the most memorable gaming experiences of my life.

As if that wasn’t enough, the online multiplayer was unbelievably fun, with great maps that fully took advantage of every aspect of the gameplay. There was nothing quite as fun as chainsawing, curb stomping and blowing up enemies in the goriest, bloodiest and most brutal of fashions. It’s definitely one of the most metal games ever made. Thank you for your time and be sure to check out “Natural Selection” on all streaming services and available on Bandcamp here.
