My Favourite Video Game: Exxasens
My Favourite Video Game is a guest feature from bands and artists where we set them a simple task… tell us about your favourite video game. In this feature guitarist and founder, Jordi Ruiz of instrumental post rock band Exxasens, accepts the challenge.
Lately, I haven’t had as much time to dedicate to video games as I’d like, but whenever I get the chance, I love diving into first-person games that pull me into immersive storylines. Right now, I’m revisiting The Last of Us series on PlayStation 5, and every time I return to it, I’m reminded of why it’s my all-time favorite. The storytelling in this game is on a whole different level—the world feels real and alive, full of intense emotions and complex characters. It’s the kind of game that lingers with you long after you put down the controller.
The atmospheric environments and detailed visuals pull me right into the post-apocalyptic world, where every corner and encounter feels meaningful. The Last of Us has a way of making you feel deeply connected to the characters, especially with the relationship between Joel and Ellie, which is beautifully crafted. Despite having played it before, I find myself just as drawn into their journey as I was the first time.
While I absolutely love the series, I have to admit that The Last of Us Part II left me a bit conflicted. There’s a major plot twist about halfway through that felt like a bold narrative choice, but it didn’t fully resonate with me. Even so, I can appreciate the risks the developers took, and the game’s mechanics, stunning visuals, and emotional intensity make it unforgettable. Ultimately, The Last of Us remains my favorite game because it goes beyond just gameplay—it’s an experience that pulls you in, makes you care, and stays with you. It’s a masterpiece of storytelling that keeps me coming back, even years later.
