Interview: The Red Crow (Written)

The Red Crow are a stoner metal trio based out of Lisbon, Portugal. They released their debut album, ‘Spellbound’, earlier this year, and in this interview we get to know them a little better.

1. Hello! Thank you for taking the time to chat to us. First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started.

Hey! Thanks for having us. The Red Crow is a heavy-hitting Stoner Metal band that blends crushing riffs with dark, atmospheric storytelling. We started this journey fueled by a love for raw, sludgy tones and themes that explore the unknown—existential dread, supernatural horrors, and everything in between. It all began with a shared passion for heavy music and a desire to create something that truly resonates with both the mind and the gut.

2. Someone comes to you and asks you to sum up what kind of music you play – what do you tell them?

We play Stoner Metal drenched in doom and psychedelia. Think fuzzed-out, monolithic riffs, pounding drums, and vocals that drift between the eerie and the aggressive. If Black Sabbath, Nirvana, and Motorhead had a jam session during an apocalyptic ritual, it would probably sound something like The Red Crow.

3. What’s currently keeping you busy? A new album/EP/single release? A new video? Playing live, or planning ahead?

Right now, we’re pushing our debut album Spellbound, which dropped in January. We’ve been focusing on playing live, getting the music in front of as many people as possible, and also working on some new material that takes things even deeper into the abyss. We’re also exploring video ideas to bring the album’s themes to life visually.

4. What is it about this current period that is particularly exciting for you?

It’s all about the energy of getting the music out there and seeing people connect with it. We’re playing shows, getting feedback from fans, and letting Spellbound carve its own path. That feeling of seeing someone completely absorbed in the music, whether it’s at a live gig or through their headphones, is something we live for.

5. Tell me about the work that has gone into making it a reality and what it means to you.

Spellbound wasn’t just an album—it was an experience. We poured everything into it, from crafting the soundscapes to perfecting the lyrics that dive into existential horror, cosmic dread, and the unknown. There were long nights in the studio, constant refining, and moments where we questioned our sanity, but in the end, it became exactly what we envisioned: a sonic trip into the dark.

6. Making music and being creative can be a very positive experience and can be very good for the mind. In what way has making music had a positive impact on your mental health?

It’s an outlet, plain and simple. Music lets us process everything—the frustration, the confusion, the darkness we all deal with. There’s something cathartic about cranking up an amp and just letting the noise take over. It keeps us grounded, focused, and sane in a world that often feels like it’s spiraling out of control.

7. It can also be incredibly challenging, more so in modern times. What have been some challenging aspects of making music and how have you overcome them?

The biggest challenge is cutting through the noise. There are so many bands out there, and getting people to stop and actually listen is harder than ever. But we just stay true to what we do—focus on the music, play live as much as possible, and make sure that every riff, every song, and every performance means something. The right people will connect with it.

8. How do you handle the online aspects of being in a band? Having to put out content constantly, promoting across several different social media platforms, and having your success measured in likes and follows?

It’s a necessary evil. We try to approach it in a way that feels natural—sharing things we actually care about rather than forcing content just to feed the algorithm. It’s easy to get caught up in the numbers, but at the end of the day, what matters is real engagement from real people who dig what we do.

9. How do you make this part of things enjoyable, and fulfilling, for yourself?

By focusing on the connection, not the metrics. When someone messages us saying a song hit them in the right way, or we see people headbanging at a gig, that’s what matters. Social media is just a tool—we use it, but we don’t let it define us.

10. Speaking directly to listeners – what would you ask they do to help support you?

If you like what we do, spread the word! Tell your friends, come to a show, grab some merch, or just stream the hell out of the album. Every little thing helps, and every bit of support fuels the fire.

11. Outside of music, what do you like to do to relax?

We’re all about anything that fuels creativity—horror movies, sci-fi books, gaming, exploring the weird and unexplained. Anything that sparks the imagination and keeps the mind restless.

12. Where can people find you?

You can find us on all major streaming platforms, social media, and at our shows. Follow us, stay tuned for what’s next, and prepare for the heaviness.
