Interview: Line Of Fire (Written)
Heavy rockers Line Of Fire are back with a brand-new EP called ‘Scars’, due for release on November 1st 2024. In this interview we get to know the band a little better and find out more about the release.
1. Hello! Thank you for taking the time to chat to us. First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started.
Hi there, Where do we begin, we’re Line of Fire, a 4 piece Classic Rock/Groove Metal band from Nottingham, originally formed in 2007 from the remains of other Nottingham bands.
2. Someone comes to you and asks you to sum up what kind of music you play – what do you tell them?
It’s a bit of a tricky one because we’ve recently made a big change to our sound, Founding member Paddy O’ Malley (Lawnmower Deth) left the band back in 2020 and he was very much stoner influenced so we always sat in with the stoner bands but recently with new guitarist Steve Dixon’s influences we now sit with the more classic rock/metal bands. I would probably say we are for fans of AC/DC, King’s X, Black Stone Cherry and other band with huge riffs and a massive rhythm section.
3. What’s currently going on in your camp? New releases? Tours? Etc.
We have the new 4 track EP ‘Scars’ due for release November 1st so we’re just winding up ready to release that, second single is out October 18th which is the title track of the EP. No touring or big shows as such, we’re looking into 2025 for that.
4. What has been the most positive experience of making music to date for you?
I think for me (Ste) the journey we went on as a band during the writing and recording for the Scars EP, for those that don’t know in 2021 front man Baz started treatment for stage 4 cancer actually stepping away from the band temporarily and returned end of 2022 where we carried on writing the EP, a lot of our heart and soul has gone into this EP.
5. Likewise, what has been some of the more challenging aspects and how have you overcome them?
I think COVID was a challenging time for everyone, I used to look forward to getting in a room with the other 3 guys on a weekly basis and feeling a part of something creative. Used to help as a form of release mentally for me so being told I couldn’t do that was a challenging time as it was for many of my friends.
6. How do you handle the modern expectations of being in a band? Always online, having to put out content constantly, your success measured in likes and follows?
I (Ste) used to be worried about being noticed and always having to be present online/active but in recent months I’ve taken a step back and I’m really not bothered anymore, it’s a hobby, we do it because we love it, I got to the point where I actually took time away from both my bands beciase I’d lost the love for it. I was working a 10 hour day then coming home and I was glued to my phone doing band stuff, not getting any time to myself or with my son and daughter and eventually something had to give.
7. What’s something that really ‘grinds your gears’ about the industry/business these days and what would you propose is done to combat it?
A personal gripe of mine is bands that play and then go home, I get the odd occasion a band can’t help it but doing this the length of time we have you see so many bands that think it’s them against everyone else and then they disappear straight after they’ve played. We’re supposed to be a community, we always watch all bands, offer to help with gear and loading in/out, I wish more bands would do the same.
8. Speaking directly to listeners – what would you ask they do to help support your music?
If you like our music, firstly, thank you, you can help us by following our socials @LineoffireUK and stay tuned, a follow up to the upcoming EP is already in the works.
9. Outside of the music, what’s do you do to relax?
Listen to music, go to the ice hockey (Go Panthers) and spend time with family and loved ones.
10. Where can people find you?
All of our socials are the same: @LineoffireUK – we do post on them occasionally, promise.
