Interview: Jessica Douek (Vocals) Larry Sobieraj (Guitar) of Mallavora
Bristolian alt-metal act Mallavora have released their brand-new album, ‘Echoes’, out now via Marshall Records. An EP that explores chronic illness, neurodiversity, and identity, blending shades of rock, alt-metal, and vocalist Jessica Douek’s Middle Eastern roots.
A stunning release that we gave 10 out of 10 and described as:
Cathartic and inclusive, there’s so much to Mallavora and so much to unpack with this EP that, chances are, we could still be talking about the four tracks on offer in a year’s time. That’s now impactful the music is and that is how important what Mallavora are doing is here. A band that genuinely feels like they can make a difference when it comes to inclusivity within the music industry and making those who feel forgotten about, heard.

We spoke to Guitarist Larry and vocalist Jessica, who live with chronic illnesses, about this record and their journey to this point. Discussing how their plans were upended by them winning ‘The Deal’ in the most positive of ways, going on to record this EP at Marshall Records’ studios and open The Avalanche Stage at Download Festival earlier this year. We also discuss opening up with their music, speaking about issues that are important to them, accessibility at venues, how everyone can get involved, and so much more.
