Interview: In Your Grave (Written)
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life bring you an interview with modern metalcore band, In your Grave.
1. Hello! Thank you for taking the time to chat to us. First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started.
My name’s Collin Anderson. I am the vocalist of the band In Your Grave. I started the band with my good friend Jose Bardales back in 2020. We put our first EP together called Enemy Lines and from there the rests history.
2. Someone comes to you and asks you to sum up what kind of music you play – what do you tell them?
We’re an intense metalcore band with a knack for pushing boundaries. We incorporate a lot of hardcore, deathcore, and electronic elements. Which sets us apart from the usual sound you might expect from a typical metalcore band.
3. What’s currently going on in your camp? New releases? Tours? Etc.
We just released our newest EP “Tusk” which came out on November 29th. We are currently getting our dates together for shows next year. We have announced we will be at Total Death Fest in South Carolina though on May 3rd though.
4. What has been the most positive experience of making music to date for you?
I would say one of my favorite moments was being able to play at The Complex in Salt Lake City, Utah with Bodysnatcher, Angelmaker, Paleface, and Distant. Such an amazing show.
5. Likewise, what has been some of the more challenging aspects and how have you overcome them?
Touring always has its ups and downs. You never know what to expect. I think for us travel was very expensive. Having to rent a van plus trailer. We ended up buying a van thats been good to us so far. However you just gotta go with the flow sometimes. You never know when something might come up.
6. How do you handle the modern expectations of being in a band? Always online, having to put out content constantly, your success measured in likes and follows?
I don’t think you can measure success by social media. Having a dedicated fan base that actually shows up to your concerts, buys your merch, and shares your content with there friends is more important. As long as your trying to do your best and your making good music. People will notice.
7. What’s something that really ‘grinds your gears’ about the industry/business these days and what would you propose is done to combat it?
No merch cuts. A lot of people have been talking about it already but unless there supplying someone to sell, count, and do everything involved with merch then stay out of our money.
8. Speaking directly to listeners – what would you ask they do to help support your music?
Just share our music. Go show your friend or whatever. Word of mouth really is the strongest tool when it comes to music promotion.
9. Outside of the music, what’s do you do to relax?
I go on hikes, play video games, yugioh, and just being a dad to my 8 year old son and my newborn daughter.
