1. Hello! Thank you for taking the time to chat to us. First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started.

It’s a pleasure thank you for having us. We are Hunter-Gatherer – a three-piece alt-rock band from North Yorkshire. We underwent a new lineup at the start of 2023 and have been writing and recording music throughout the year. Now we are releasing and sharing our new music.

2. Someone comes to you and asks you to sum up what kind of music you play – what do you tell them?

In short we always say ‘Full-Fat Alt-Rock’ but we do take inspiration from the likes of Lower than Atlantis/Boston Mannor/Don Broco etc. Quite a lot of people compare us to incubus actually, we don’t shrug that off we’ll take that.

3. What’s currently going on in your camp? New releases? Tours? Etc.

We have released 2 singles over the last 2 months which have marked the start of our new chapter as a new band. Common trips to the studio are being made as we continue to write and grow our catalogue of music. We have a Battle of the Bands grand final at The Fulford Arms York 22nd October which we are really excited about, whatever happens.

4. What has been the most positive experience of making music to date for you?

The most positive experience from making our music has been the positive/happy energy we receive from our listeners and audiences. We’re not quite sure what it is ourselves but everybody around us especially at our gigs just seem to get into a really good place. As cheesy as this sounds!

5. Likewise, what has been some of the more challenging aspects and how have you overcome them?

I guess the most challenging aspect is winning an audience over. Weirdly we find the less we think or concentrate on that, and let our hair down, allowing ourselves be immersed by the moment the audience then feels that and bounces of you and then vice versa.

6. How do you handle the modern expectations of being in a band? Always online, having to put out content constantly, your success measured in likes and follows?

Quite often you find yourself wondering what the hell should I put on Tiktok next?? But then that’s where preparation is key, which we are not always prepared for the next Tiktok. Keeping busy gig wise helps for content and helps show who you are as a live band. But as long as you are in the band for the enjoyment first and foremost, then numbers are really just numbers.

7. What’s something that really ‘grinds your gears’ about the industry/business these days and what would you propose is done to combat it?

There are so many positivity’s within the music industry and the modern way of streaming has created so much accessibility. But I guess the numbers game can easily get into your head and instantly give you an ugly unsuccessful feeling, then again if you’re doing this for the enjoyment then you must not let numbers get you down. Money wise, having enough in the bank to record and release music as frequent as you perhaps should be doing so is big, big challenge. Yeah cost is our biggest challenge.

8. Speaking directly to listeners – what would you ask they do to help support your music?

The biggest thing is taking 30 seconds – 1 minuet of your time to check our Instagram, listen to our music and see if you dig what we are up to. As we are only beginning to scratch the service of what Hunter-gatherer has to offer for ourselves and for you.

9. Outside of the music, what’s do you do to relax?

Our drummer Lucas is a pretty pro Skateboarder, he probably sees skating as relaxing. Myself Sam (singer) I love toi force myself into the cold sea and go running, as for Ted on bass, he loves the cinema and walking his dog.
