Interview: Decrepit Youths (Written)
Hitting your senses from Newcastle, the high flying alt-rock hard-hitters that is Decrepit Youths released their debut EP, ‘Love Psycho Kill Machine’ recently. In this interview we get to know them a little better.
1. Hello! Thank you for taking the time to chat to us. First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started.
We are Decrepit Youths, a 4 piece Alt/Rock band from the North East of England. We started when myself (David) and Connor were both pursuing solo ventures and decided we should join forces and see what we can create. Once we had written our first tune together with we knew this was something special.
2. Someone comes to you and asks you to sum up what kind of music you play – what do you tell them?
I would say flavours of Rock, Alt and Electronic mixed into a blender on full speed.
3. What’s currently keeping you busy? A new album/EP/single release? A new video? Playing live, or planning ahead?
We are currently putting all our focus into social media and content creation. We also have 4 new singles recorded.
4. What is about this current period that is particularly exciting for you?
Getting new fans and introducing new listener’s to our music.
5. Tell me about the work that has gone into making it a reality and what it means to you.
A lot of time, money and persistency. We are no where near our goal and it takes constant self motivation. It’s tough, but music is our passion so we keep pushing.
6. Making music and being creative can be a very positive experience and can be very good for the mind. In what way has making music had a positive impact on your mental health?
We are all full time musicians. Being able to make a full time living from music is the dream. However, We still want to achieve so much more but we are grateful to earn a living from music whilst we pursue our goals.
7. It can also be incredibly challenging, more so in the modern times. What have been some challenging aspects of making music and how have you overcome them?
We are putting original music out into an overly saturated market where everyone wants to be “famous”. It’s a constant battle for appreciation and building a genuine fan base. It’s a real struggle at times but you have to stay true to your passion and focus on the goals ahead. Every release we earn more fans , build our fan base and develop our brand. It takes time and we understand this. Rome wasn’t built in a day.
8. How do you handle the online aspects of being in a band? Having to put out content constantly, promoting across several different social media platforms, and having your success measured in likes and follows?
It’s time consuming and is definitely something you have to stay on top of weeks ahead in order to be consistent. Social media is crucial for any band in 2025 so the hardest part now is coming up with original content ideas and staying current but also true to ourselves. It’s changed the game now for musicians. We aren’t just music creators anymore , we are content creators and this is something every musician needs to adapt too.
9. How do you make this part of things enjoyable, and fulfilling, for yourself?
By having a laugh . Me and Connor are both have silly personalities anyways, so making fun content is actually really enjoyable and we want to try inject that personality into our music as much as possible.
10. Speaking directly to listeners – what would you ask they do to help support you?
Share our music with friends and engage with our content. Let us know if our music speaks to them.
11. Outside of music, what do you like to do to relax?
Travelling and networking with new people. Going to gigs and discovering new music .
12. Where can people find you?
We are on Spotify, Apple Music, Instagram, Facebook and Tik Tok. Give us a follow!
