Horror Short Review: Wicked Palms (2024)
What goes on in your apartment, may haunt you.
From Tales at Night, written, directed & produced by Simon Skovfoged & Nicolai Bundgaard, Wicked Palms is an unsettling horror short that shows how keeping it simple, can be so effective.
Simon Skovfoged stars as a man who is in for a very disconcerting time as odd things start to occur around his home. Built up brilliantly through tense, drawn-out shots, chilling musical cues, and effective jump-scare moments.
There’s no dialogue, and the short utilises silence to such great effect, it’s akin to watching Paranormal Activity for the first time. Where a door slowly creaking open is more terrifying than any demon could ever be. This effectiveness encapsulated by an ending that is abrupt, but fits the overall tone perfectly.
This is a horror short that is well worth watching, as it promises to leave you feeling unsettled, and it does. You might find yourself looking at slightly ajar doors in a different light for a while after watching it.
