Horror Short Review: Where’s Weirdo (2024)
Written and directed by Duncan Peake, Where’s Weirdo is an award-winning horror short that stars Gabby Carbon and Gene Banyard.
Daisy runs a small bookstore, and after seeing the last couple of people out for the day, she closes and sets about putting books on shelves. It’s when she sits down to sort through some loose ones, that strange things begin to happen.
Hearing a noise, she goes to investigate and finds an odd book on the floor, a children’s book that focuses on the character of Mr Weirdo, the vanishing magician. Unfamiliar with it, and intrigued, she decides to read it. It’s a fun book and at the end, she ‘finds’ Mr. Weirdo. Which, as she will find out, was a mistake because he has found her now.
Brilliantly told, expertly made, wonderfully acted, and dripping in sinister horror vibes, Where’s Weirdo is an excellent horror short. One filled with frights and enhanced by the visuals and sounds. It’s the kind of short that you could see, one day, being turned into a full feature film. Check it out yourself below, but don’t find Weirdo, whatever you do.
