Horror Short Review: The Crone (2018)

The Crone is a horror short from writer and director, Attila Csak. It stars Corinna Marlowe, Alice Nokes, and Jaden Oshenye.

The latter plays Michael, a young boy who is trying to escape a group of thugs late one evening. About to be caught, he finds refuge in the home of an elderly woman. One who comes across kind and friendly, if not a little unusual.

Michael is just grateful for the safety, food, and drink that she offers him though. That is until she offers him money to pay off those chasing him. Insisting that he come down to the basement with her to get her purse.

In any other circumstances, this would be a major red flag, but she’s a kindly old lady. What possible threat could she be?

You know what’s going to happen, but you can’t help but watch on, it’s a proper ‘fingers over the eyes’ kind of watch.

Unnerving. That is the word that sums up The Crone. It is an unnerving horror short that oozes tension. Dark and twisted, with some phenomenal performances, creepy atmosphere, and haunting music. Although often, with the latter, it’s the use of silence that really stands out.

A really strong horror short overall. Well worth checking out, which you can, below.
