Horror Short Review: The Barn (2021)
From Pomme Productions comes the psychological short horror film, The Barn. A baffling and surreal story that has nods to legendary filmmakers like David Lynch and Alfred Hitchcock.
Released on October 28th, The Barn stars Justice Tirapelli-Jamail and Rocío de la Grana. The Barn is notable for two things; Firstly, its complete lack of dialogue and secondly, its use of music to tell its story.
Not only that, the music and sound effects are integral to the film’s atmosphere which can be best described as… heavy.
As said at the start, The Barn is one hell of a surreal flick and making sense of it might need a few watches. However, first impressions are important and the one left here is deep. The Barn’s dream-like story-telling, impressive practical effects and absorbing original score makes for a suspenseful watch. You might not fully understand just what is happening but you’ll find yourself immersed by it.
You’re constantly questioning just what is real?
It might be too ‘out there’ if it wasn’t held together by such a strong score. The importance of this can’t be understated but it should also be noted that it is amazing to listen too. So much so, that the music is receiving a dedicated release of extended and additional material on Houston boutique label Industrial Beach Records. Music From the Barn: A Horror Film was composed by producer/musician & sound designer, Cory Sinclair, who performs under the moniker, Hescher.
I can’t promise you that you’re going to love what The Barn has for you. The subjective nature of taste and the unreal way it tells its story isn’t the easiest to grasp. However, I can promise you that you will be fascinated by what you see and you are going to watch it until the end.
