Horror Short Review: Thanks For Letting Me In (2024)

A short horror film from Michael Ortega, Thanks for Letting Me In doesn’t have a lot of ‘meat to the bones’, but it is effective.

All because it creates a scenario that no one would ever want to find themselves in. One that has the main character, a man, working away at his desk, when his hallway light switches on and off several times. Not flickering, but rather ‘on and off’, as though someone was messing around with the switch.

Going to investigate, he finds nothing out of the ordinary, and then there’s a knock at the front door. Who is outside? Nobody. So, the man goes back to his desk and finds the words ‘thanks for letting me in’ written on his notepad. On every single page.

He has a guest, one who thinks they were invited in, and one who decides to make themselves at home.

A mildly entertaining watch that is amateurish in places but still delivers a creepy vibe and a solid enough payoff. It is, at its core, a ghost story, so that does add a layer of predictability to things. Which is odd, as it almost feels like it’s going for a ‘sillier’ angle at first. Alas, that might have made it a much better short, but that’s not what we have here. It’s watchable, but it won’t live long in the memory.
