Horror Short Review: Telepresence (2021)
From independent filmmaker, Jason Gaines comes Telepresence. A horror short that uses modern technology to tell a solid and visceral story.
Starring, Dillion Foley, Jay Squared and Koron Wilkerson. Telepresence is about virtual reality. The modern version of VR that you can play in your living room. It’s what our main character gets in the mail, although he is less than impressed by it once he starts using it.
Wanting more from it, he ends up ‘sideloading’ the VR device (essentially jailbreaking it). From here, he ends up playing a VR spirit board experience and connecting with something from the other side.
The main character has made contact with something demonic and it wants his soul now.
A well made short that excels in several important areas. Namely the visuals, the use of VR and its bloody ending. The story may be basic (it is a short after all) but it creates a surreal environment and pays things off satisfyingly.
For clearly having a low-budget, it looks very impressive. It isn’t exactly scary but a few moments will get the desired effect from those easily susceptible to a jump or two.
