Horror Short Review: She’s Here (2023)
From Trepidation, a short horror film company, comes She’s Here, a viewing experience that creates great atmosphere, but not a lot else.
It simply tells the story of a detective entering a house to investigate a murder case. For some reason, he’s doing this at night, so having to rely on torchlight. As he looks around, he begins to find signs that suggest something much darker went on here and that the killer may not have been human.
Filmed from the point of view of the detective adds a lot of tension to the short, and the location is suitably haunting. However, She’s Here lacks a solid payoff and overdoes it with music. This is a short that could have done with none at all, or at most, subtle ambient noise in the background. Instead, it sounds like a bloody Resident Evil or Silent Hill game.
In a short that is barely three and half minutes long, it’s these small things that stand out. Which is also why it’s hard not to grimace at the lacklustre reveal. A tired trope of having the ‘monster’ rush at the camera, with the obligatory jump sound effect.
It’s not terrible by any means, but it’s unremarkable. Check it out yourself below.
