Horror Short Review: OnlyFans (2022)
From regular purveyor of horror shorts, Alex Magaña (writer/director/editor) comes OnlyFans, a psychological horror story that is notable for being quite different from the creator’s usual work.
Ashley BeLoat is a young woman heavily in debt and facing the imminent arrival of a collection agency. Desperate to get some money together quickly, she signs up for OnlyFans and connects with someone immediately.
She’s very nervous but the person pays her to do a few small things. Take her glasses off, put some red lipstick on. let her hair down and change into a dress. It’s when the anonymous user asks her to do whatever he wants for 20 minutes exactly, that she balks.
However, a big money offer, money that she needs, gets her to agree and its from here that things really get dark.
An interesting short that plays on the real-life horror of having yourself exposed online. Playing on the dangers of the internet and how anonymity has emboldened the worst of society. Playing on the situations that people get into when they are desperate. Using OnlyFans as its source of inspiration works because of the adult nature of the service and it certainly makes it feel quite modern even if the story itself is a familiar one.
Expecting a tried and tested jump scare at the end? Nope, this isn’t the horror short for that. Instead, it leaves you with a hollow and sick feeling in your stomach. Check it out below.
