Horror Short Review: Never Have I Ever (2023)

Written and directed by Alex Magaña and starring Becky Bush and Shelby Brown. Never Have I Ever is a horror short from ACMofficial.

One that doesn’t hang about as we seeing a young woman named Grace going to get into her car late at night but noticing two masked woman watching her from afar. The screeching horror sound effect to emphasis the ‘scariness’ of this scene is just too much and is used several times throughout the short.

Then, they just disappear. Grace’s phone rings, she answers while getting in her car, and speaks to her fried Lauren about needing to be somewhere. Lauren’s expression is not one of warmth.

Arriving at Lauren’s house, Grace sees that the two masked women have followed her and she bangs on the door to get her friend’s attention. When Lauren answers, the two women are gone and Grace is brought inside where more friends are waiting.

They’re playing a game. A game of never have I ever. One that begins innocently enough but quickly takes a dark turn. Want to know what happens next? Check it out below.

Annoying sound effect aside, this is a solid short scare from ACMofficial that delivers a delightfully twisted ending. It’s always impressive to see something coherent with a runtime of less than 3 minutes and there’s no denying that Alex Magaña could do these shorts in his sleep. Never Have I Ever isn’t the best nor is it anywhere close to the worst, it sits comfortably in the middle as a worthwhile, but mostly unmemorable horror short.
