Horror Short Review: Netflix and Chill 2 (2024)
The last time we checked in on ACMofficial and Alex Magaña, their main YouTube account had been hacked and they were fighting to get it back under their control. Happily, that appears to have happened, and it’s business as usual on the main ACMofficial YouTube account.
The first Netflix and Chill was an average horror short in ACMofficial’s inimitable style, and like most of their shorts, it has quickly turned into a series.
Netflix and Chill 2 stars Sayaka Ueda as Lauren, and we’re introduced to her seemingly concerned about her weight. Having not got the number she was hoping for on the scale, she tries to cheer herself up by watching TV (presumably Netflix) but it is immediately interrupted by a phone call.
It’s her friend wanting to arrange a meet at the gym the next day, as it appears as though the pair made a New Year’s resolution to drop some weight, and Lauren is beginning to tire of it. So, she lies, claiming she’s already dropped the weight and gets back to her show.
It’s about here, that things start to get a bit strange as she feels her stomach tighten and visibly shrink. Confused, she weighs herself again, and is delighted to see that she now weighs less. Not quite the normal reaction to such an event, but before she can take it in, her phone starts buzzing.
If you’ve seen the first short, you know what happens next, everything she says, happens in an instant. However, you must be very careful with this kind of power, as any wrong word can turn out extremely bad for you.
The Netflix and Chill series doesn’t have much milage, mainly because it’s a basic ‘be careful what you wish for’ story with almost no relevancy to what the title term means in popular culture. However, this sequel is marginally better because Alex Magaña chooses to go for a more gleefully dark ending that offers up a fun kind of horror, rather than a scary kind of horror.
It’s still nothing to get excited about, but in a world of ACMofficial hit & miss horror shorts, this might be more hit than miss.
