Horror Short Review: Momo – The Loft (2024)
Do you remember when Momo was a thing? Director Jiya Kapur does and has used the creepy internet urban legend to tell this horror short story.
A man is relaxing at home, watching a horror flick, when he hears strange noises coming from his loft space. Of course, he goes to investigate, completely unperturbed by the unsettling sounds coming from inside. As he shines his torch around, the sense that he is not alone, grows. Leading to… someone in a really bad Momo mask grabbing him.
The YouTube description of this short is incredibly misleading. Describing it as having:
Expertly crafted suspense and heart-pounding moments. A bone-chilling short film that delves into the darkest corners of the human psyche, exploring themes of fear, curiosity, and the consequences of dabbling in the unknown.
It is none of these things, and while the amateurishness of it can be forgiven, the lack of originality and quality can’t. It’s a bad short that is yawn-inducingly predictable, has no tension because of how it is shot and how obnoxious the sound effects are, and ends in hilariously lacklustre fashion.
