Horror Short Review: Milk (2024)
From filmmaker Santiago Menghini comes the horror short film, Milk. A must see short that stars Anana Rydvald and Cameron Brodeur.
The latter plays a teenager who, one dark and late night, gets out of bed to get a drink from the fridge. There’s an immediate ominous feel to the darkness. A sense of wicked things waiting in the gloom.
Taking a big drink from a carton of milk he fails to notice the dark figure of someone standing nearby. It’s his mother, she’s had a few drinks, and is speaking in hushed tones, which seems to be normal for this teenager. Until it’s not. She doesn’t seem to be ok.
Milk is a short that you don’t want spoiled for you, as experiencing the building dread with no knowledge of what will happen makes for a more thrilling watch. It’s a smart horror, one that uses metaphors to express itself, and in doing so, leaves a much larger impact. It might seem confusing at first, but let it sink in, and what it is trying to say makes more sense, while also having a certain amount of openness as far as interpretations go.
There’s a ton of talent involved in making this an unsettling and gripping watch. The actors are fantastic, and not only does writer/director Santiago Menghini create genuine discomfort, but it is done in such an impressively visual and aural way. It looks and sounds amazing. This is a must watch and you can check it out yourself, below.
