Horror Short Review: In Sickness (2024)
There are three sorts of people: those who are alive, those who are dead, and those who are at sea. – Anacharsis
Created for the 2024 Jakob Owens Horror Short Film Contest, In Sickness is a highly imaginative and visually arresting horror short that leaves a disturbing impression. Created by Benjamin Christensen, Ethan Cire, Adam Junio, and Daniel Gayfer, the story surrounds a man searching for his brother who is lost at sea.
It’s been a few weeks, but he refuses to give up and is aided by an elderly and mysterious sailor who knows what its like to not give up on those lost at sea. Of course, at this stage, all anyone can hope for is to find a body so they can be laid to rest. Unless there’s something else out there in the dark and deep water.
A short you don’t want spoiled, this is an incredible experience that rises above all expectations and delivers something that, if explored further, could be an excellent full-length horror. It’s unnerving, it’s mysterious, it’s atmospheric, and it’s horrifying, all within less than five minutes of running time.
It really doesn’t get better than this and it will stay with you long afterwards. Check it out below.
