Horror Short Review: I Drew You (2025)
Written and directed by Harry Valentine, and starring Ibanda Ruhumbika and Jenny Becerra, I Drew You is a frightening tale with a surreal style. One that proves to be thoroughly memorable and serves to remind the viewer that just being a decent human being can make all the difference.
Ibanda Ruhumbika plays The Commuter, a man leaving the subway where he meets The Artist, played by Jenny Becerra. While they were on the train, she drew him, and is showing him the picture. All for clicks and likes, of course. He’s in a bit of a rush, so doesn’t know quite how to respond, but takes the picture and leaves. It is while he is heading up and out of the subway that he starts to feel strange and notice the picture isn’t quite right.
Fearful, he rushes back to confront the Artist, but it’s already too late.
No spoilers, but rest assured I Drew You has a very creative ending that fits in with the weirdness of the story and how it is shot. Up close, obnoxious in places, and mixing in phone footage, it would be off-putting in something longer and less interesting. Thankfully, that’s not the case and what we get is a really clever and effective horror short.
