Horror Short Review: Final Gasp (2023)
Written & directed by David E. Teixeira, Final Gasp is a horror short that stars Catarina Carvalho as Lindsay. A young woman who shares a flat with roommates, something that makes her piano lessons hard work.
So, when she hears knocking, she figures it’s just one of her annoyed roommates. Afterwards, she hears a knock on the front door, and answers to find no-one there. However, someone left a big pink box. Thinking it’s for one of her roommates, she puts it to the side, but later finds out via text message that neither are home this weekend and it’s not their package.
Something she is very happy about and sets about taking advantage of for the rest of the night. That is until her attention is brought back to the package. So, she decides to open it. What’s inside?
Final Gasp takes a more artistic approach, notable by the way in which it is shot and how the music/sound effects are effective components in building the horror. At its core though, Final Gasp is a slasher and delivers on the expectations of that specific type of horror.
It has atmosphere, and a good turn from Catarina Carvalho, helping ensure this is another strong horror short from David E. Teixeira. It will be released sometime in 2023 and you can keep up to date by checking out David E. Teixeira’s Vimeo here.
