Horror Short Review: Don’t Look Back (2024)

Created by Mitsumoto Yuasa and starring Masatoshi Ikeda and Kayo Hikita, Don’t Look Back is a well-made horror short that will send some chills down your spine.

A man, having finished work, goes to get his train, only to find that it’s been delayed. Tired, and wanting to just go home, he decides to walk but his route takes him through an ominous looking tunnel.

His desire to get home overrides his feelings of discomfort, so he heads in. Something he will soon regret doing.

Creepy and disturbing, the short utilises classic aspects of J-horror and K-horror to deliver its frights, and they’re all effective. Especially in the latter half, when things move to a location that most people should feel safe – their home.

Impressively shot, well-acted, looking great (especially the ghost), and sounding even better, Don’t Look Back is a great horror short that will leave you feeling cold all over. That it takes its time, a rare thing in the world of shorts, really allows the tension to grow.
