Horror Short Review: Deep Down Low (2024)
Fracking is becoming a more utilised horror aspect as the concept of ‘shooting chemicals into the earth’ makes for easy depths to plumb. After all who knows what ancient and malevolent things would stay buried if we’d only stop fracking.
Written and directed by Ryan Patrick, Deep Down Low is a horror short that stars Ryan Masson, Brad Berryhill, and Erin Murray.
Michael is applying for a job at a natural gas fracking site, but is having trouble filling out the application because of the constant earthquakes. One big one shakes things up significantly though and starts a chain of events that ensure this job is the last thing he wants. Something has been woken up and it’s something supernatural.
This is a pretty good horror short with creative touches in between some basic horror elements. Being only around five minutes long means there’s not much time to tell a nuanced story, but what it offers is intriguing and creepy enough to hold the attention. The ending, in particular, shows imagination and you can check it out below.
