Horror Movie Review: The Christmas Season Massacre (2001)
You’re not supposed to take The Christmas Season Massacre seriously. That much is made very clear so with that in mind; it’s not fair to call it a stupid movie. Even though it is a very stupid movie. However, the fact it is so tongue in cheek gives it some charm and many will be mildly entertained by what they see.
A parody of slasher flicks, it surrounds a serial killer named ‘Tommy One-Shoe’. He is called such because he wears only one shoe and is dressed like a pirate. See? Don’t take this film seriously for a second.
Tommy One-Shoe is psychotic and likes nothing but to butcher random people during the holiday season. We find this all out in an unnecessarily long scene where having finally had enough, his former schoolmates decide to put a stop to his nefarious ways once and for all.
If you’re watching The Christmas Season Massacre for a story, look elsewhere. It has a plot but it is incoherent and inebriated, stumbling from one gory and violent scene to the next.
Talking of which, it is what everyone will remember from The Christmas Season Massacre. The uber-goriness of it all is in complete contrast to the film’s attempts to be funny. It is very jarring as these bloody and violent moments are pretty full on. The tone shifting constantly, especially when you throw in graphic sex scenes too.
Even with all of that, it’s still an entertaining watch. Considering it’s nearly a no-budget film, the acting is decent and everyone tries hard. Even more impressive considering the total lack of actual characters that exist. No matter, they at least look like they’re having fun which certainly helps make the slower moments that little more bearable.
Go in with low expectations and the knowledge that The Christmas Season Massacre is incredibly silly. That way, it’s immediately more enjoyable. Just be prepared for some really jarring gory and violent moments.
