Horror Movie Review: Easter Holocaust (2020)

The end of the world is nigh in writer/director Michael Leo Centi’s Easter themed horror movie, Easter Holocaust. A super low-budget slice of comedy horror schlock that goes on forever, seemingly.

The story surrounds a ‘creature’ that looks awfully like a person in a bunny outfit, that is murdering people and taking out their hearts. These hearts are being collected in an egg basket, and when the creature has enough, it will be able to open the gates of Hell.

There’s psychics with powers, devil worshippers who want to see the end times brought about, evil scientists looking to exploit, and townspeople having had enough of the creature. Easter Holocaust has a lot of threads, which might go some way in explaining why it’s over two hours long. Except, such a runtime can never be excused in a movie like this.

Even if it had elements that did entertain, the nauseating runtime would ensure those would be lost under the weight of so much padding. Which Easter Holocaust has a lot of.

There is a clear ‘you know what you’re getting into’ with this film though, especially as the opening few minutes are cheap, ugly, and laughably bad. If you can stomach the bad acting, bad dialogue, and no-budget look, you’ll be able to stomach most of what is on offer throughout. Though, even then, the laborious and lengthy runtime will likely finish off anyone who was trying to look at this film from a more positive place.

It doesn’t make a lot of sense either, as throughout, it’s clear Easter Holocaust is intentionally being bad. It’s one of those films that embraces the fact there was no money to do anything really. Yet we’ve seen this from other films, and they’ve still turned out so much better than this.

Again, it all comes back to the excruciating runtime. Even though what Easter Holocaust offers wouldn’t have been enjoyable in half the time, it would have at least been more bearable. Bad horror, bad jokes, bad acting, bad dialogue, and bad story-telling all combine to make this one hell of a bad egg to crack open this Easter.
