Horror Movie Review: Curse of Mardi Gras (2002)
Curse of Mardi Gras aka Voodoo Tailz is a 2002 voodoo horror movie directed by Daniel Zirilli who co-wrote it with Carl Washington. The movie also stars Zirilli, alongside Merlynne Williams, Moon Jones, Yuri Brown and Cyd Casados.
This is a rough watch. A low-budget movie that looks, sounds and feels as cheap as it is. A modern rename can’t hide the fact that it was released at the start of the millennium. Humanely, it’s only 70 minutes long but trust us when we say that you’re going to feel every minute of those 70.
The plot, if you can call it that, surrounds a group of girls going to New Orleans during Mardi Gras. There, they plan to party hard but one by one, end up being kidnapped by some sort of voodoo cult. Once in the clutches of this cult, the girls are to be sacrificed… or something like that. It’s really hard to pay attention to a movie this bad.
We hope you enjoy lots of scenes around the girls dancing, walking, talking and doing nothing of significance of all. If not, maybe you enjoy randomly jammed in scenes that have nothing to do with the plot or the jarring rap-soundtrack.
If not, maybe the horrendous acting where anything said comes across like it was the first time these actors spoke in front of a camera is your jam? What about the non-existent characters who make some the dumbest decisions outside of an 80’s slasher horror?
Curse of Mardi Gras feels like a porno that had all the nudity and sex stripped from it. It’s just got that cheap, low-budget vibe to it. Imagine your favourite bit of porn? Now take all the stuff you like out of it. Doesn’t sound like it’s going to be much fun to watch, does it?
Folks, that is Curse of Mardi Gras in a nutshell. Maybe you might find yourself mildly entertained by just how bad it is?
