Horror Movie Review: Baby Oopsie 2: Murder Dolls (2022)

Written and directed by William Butler, 2022’s Baby Oopsie 2: Murder Dolls continues where 2021’s Baby Oopsie left off. A Full Moon Pictures film that ended up quite a solid horror flick and something of a rebirth of their Demonic Toys franchise. You see, it is that franchise that Baby Oopsie Daisy came from.

In the review for 2021’s Baby Oopsie, I suggested that Full Moon might have something here, provided they don’t overdo it, as they often always do. Well, a sequel is one step on the path to overdoing it, but happily, the formula that worked so well in the first flick is used here, and a lot of elements are ramped up for even more enjoyability. It’s not a great film, and not much better than the first, but Baby Oopsie: Murder Dolls is Full Moon at their modern day strongest.

The Baby Oopsie killing spree continues, with doll maker Sybil (Libbie Higgins) well and truly subservient to it, alongside neighbour Ray-Ray (Justin Armistead) who has embraced their new-found Satanism with aplomb. Once again, both characters are delightfully odd and fun to watch, with Sybil still be highly sympathetic.

She’s still that lonely loser, and has come to accept that this is her life now. That is until she gets the opportunity to mass-market the Baby Oopsie doll. A Baby Oopsie in every house around the world, how could she say no? Although first, Baby Oopsie wants some companions. Yes, it’s all going a bit Puppet Master now and the gates to doll Hell are beginning to open. Will Sybil realise before it’s to late, and can she save Ray-Ray’s soul, as well as her own?

These films are fun, kept tight and short, and without taking themselves too seriously at all. The elements that need to be ramped up are, and all the prominent players approach the experience with glee. It’s got plenty of enjoyable kills, some really strong gore effects, a likable lead character, and a funny secondary one. Alongside a sense that this story is beginning to encapsulate all of Full Moon’s doll/puppet/toy franchises. It’s probably time we do get the biggest crossover of all time within the Full Moon world.
