Horror Movie Review: Amityville Vibrator (2020)
Amityville Vibrator is not an official entry in the long-running franchise (as many aren’t – check out this list). It was made on a next to no budget, written and directed by Nathan Rumler, and stars Corella Waring, Mallory Maneater and Emily Hilborn.
It’s called Amityville Vibrator and has the tagline “for god’s sake, get off”. That should tell you everything you need to know about the underground status of this movie. Something it wears proudly. What you might not get though is just how much explicit pornography is featured and just how graphic the gore is. This is a modern-day nasty.
The movie makes its intent clear from the very start as its opening features a woman in a goat mask vigorously masturbating with a vibrator. Yep.
Cathy has split up with her boyfriend. She’s pretty bummed out about it so her friend Roxi insists they go out and pick up some sex toys to help her move on. They end up coming across a yard sale and the owner offers them a vibrator. Cathy is entranced by the sleek looking thing so buys it.
It turns out that this vibrator is possessed though and wants to turn Cathy and others into sex slaves. Can she be saved? Two paranormal investigators might be able to help. Once they’ve finished with their drug trip first.
Ridiculously silly, offensively rubbish and stupidly entertaining… Amityville Vibrator is as crass as you can get. Be under no illusion, this is not a film many will enjoy. From the up-close shots of both male and female genitals, to the sex acts performed, to the gluttony of gore that erupts. It’s designed to shock and disgust.
It nails that aspect, especially as it begins with intensity and stays that way for most of its run time. Though it also features some humour… toilet humour, but humour none the less. The sequence where the two main stars are using the vibrator while name dropping many other Amityville titles is funny and clever.
It’s so cold, it’s Haunting.
It’s going to make you cum so hard, you’re going to end up in an Asylum.
Yeah, fuck me in this Death House.
Your pussy is my Playhouse.
Yeah, put it in me so deep, you reach my Vanishing Point.
Where are you going, I’m trying to build a Legacy here.
You had me worried, there’s No Escape here.
Perform an Exorcism on my asshole.
Corella Waring and Mallory Maneater absolutely nail the stupid tone of this scene and many others. They know what they’re in and they play it for chuckles.
Though, it has very limited milage. Which is why the film only lasts a little over an hour and even then, it has some filler moments. The aforementioned drug trip slows the pace down to a snail’s crawl.
That aside, Amityville Vibrator is the epitome of modern horror sleaze and will offend a lot of people should they chose to hit play. It’s not a good film in the conventional sense, it’s more of an impressive example of underground horror. As far as movies go with Amityville in the title, it’s certainly one of the most unique entries we’ve seen.
