EP Review: Zarraza – Kreated In Blood (Self Released)
Kazakh thrashers Zarraza will release their three-track EP, ‘Kreated In Blood’ on July 8th, 2022. The EP brings a fresh take on three classic metal anthems, staying true to the spirit of thrash, while weaving in the ancient Turkic instrument; the kyl-kobyz.
The band says:
Kreated In Blood is a dream come true. Now we got our own versions of our fave songs but infused with Kazakh ethnic. We not only destroyed these classics with our performance but asked friends to help us and bring some special flavor to the final result. I assure you there is no version of “Raining Blood” like ours! Even if you don’t like it – I bet you never heard anything like that!
Taking three classics and breathing new and interesting life into them, Kreated in Blood might be a covers EP, but these versions of these classic songs are some of the most unique versions you may ever hear.
Utilising a kyl-kobyz (an ancient Turkic bowed string instrument that legend says could banish evil spirits, sicknesses, and death), Zarraza will delight fans of these songs with their unique take. The blend of metal and traditional Kazak sounds makes for an unforgettable listen and each track has a fresh flavour. None more so then Zarraza’s version of Slayer’s inimitable classic, Raining Blood.
Although, on a personal level, their version of Gojira’s L’Enfant Sauvage is absolute gold. The progressive style of Gojira’s music meshes so well with Zarraza’s use of traditional Kazak instruments.
Even if these are songs you’ve heard hundreds of times before, chances are you’ve not heard them done quite like this. That alone makes the EP a must listen.
