EP Review: Wednesday 13 – Necrophaze: Antidote (Nuclear Blast)
Wednesday 13 will be releasing a new EP titled “Necrophaze: Antidote” on April 16th through Nuclear Blast. While several of the tracks have previously been released as singles, fans can now pick them up as part of a complete EP collection.
Beginning with a cover of the Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13 track Your Mother Still Sucks Cocks in Hell. Which appeared on the compilation album; 6 Years, 6 Feet Under the Influence. Where it was one of a handful of new tracks added by the shock maestro himself.
A fun punk rock hit with a killer chorus that you just want to sing along too. Exactly the sort of track you might expect to come from the mind of Wednesday 13. The big flourish at the end is quite fun.
Screwdriver 2 – The Return is an original track even though it appears to be a sequel to the song, Screwdriver. Which appeared on the Frankenstein Drag Queen’s From Planet 13 album, Might of the Living Drag Queens from 1998.
Aggressive, threatening and energetic. It’s another fun effort.
We then get a cool cover of INXS’ Devil Inside where the guitars are much more sinewy and 13 really emphasis’ his demonic growl. Before Gary Numan’s Films also gets the cover treatment but with the added guest of Calico Cooper. A very successful actor, singer, director and of course, she is the daughter of legendary shock horror rocker, Alice Cooper.
Enhancing the sinister edge while sticking to the industrial electronica that made Gary Numan’s song so beloved. This is a cool cover on a cool EP. Probably one for the super-fan rather than an entry point for newbies though.
