EP Review: Unanimated – Annihilation (Century Media Records)
They are back! After nine years in vigilant slumber the mighty Unanimated, originators of the infamous Swedish melodic death/black metal sound, return with four brand new tracks. The band’s new EP ‘Annihilation’ continues the path that Unanimated have chosen with their latest studio album ‘In The Light Of Darkness’ (2009).
Annihilation was released on August 10th 2018 via Century Media Records.
Hold on tight, stuff is about to get roaringly heavy as Unanimated show just why they are considered the originators of the Swedish melodic death/black metal sound. The four tracks that make up Annihilation are hot and heavy affairs.
Opener Adversarial Fire makes no attempt to be anything but pure heavy fury spat out at a feral pace up until the final minute or so where the beat drops into a low and heavy groove. Up to this point it isn’t a track worth getting excited about but that ending is decadently evil sounding.
From A Throne Below is a step-up though delivering ritualistic vocals alongside a really memorable level of guitar groove. A great song for all fans of melo-death out there Keeping things fresh, Of Fire and Obliteration is a moody and melodic track that sweats darkness. Before the title track turns the heat up with a hefty slab of heaviness with just a hint of doom blackness.
It was definitely worth the wait.
